My dad has completed a monumentous task. He has a channel on youtube, on which he has read and commented on the entire bible. He has many other videos on there about various gospel topics, his testimony, why he joined the church.... It's amazing. He was able to download his readings of the bible for me, and I've been listening to it on my ipod for my personal scripture study. Today I listened to Genesis 41. It was really personal for me to hear about all that Joseph went through and take it onto perspective of my own life and trials. I am guilty of the "why me?" syndrome when I am in the middle of troubles. I tend to think this way: I've been pretty good for most of my life. I was not a rebellious child. Did not keep my parents up at night worrying. I tend to be kind to those around me and help whenever I can. I have pretty much kept to the straight and narrow. Shouldn't my life be easy? I sometimes consider trials and punishments to be pretty similar. Which today I realised (umm, duh) they are not. God does not owe me in return for my own obedience. I do not get to decide when I have earned a reward from God. I am not racking up points on an eternal scoreboard. I am learning. Mastering my attitudes and being taught to be like God and Jesus, line upon line, as much as I can handle at a time. I am so thankful for a God who knows me, my heart and capabilities, and tries to continually help me in ways I can't even comprehend. For trials, struggles, that remind me to always turn to Him and He will guide me in a way that forces me to understand something new each time. Even when my trials seem the same, I learn a new attitude through it or gain a new insight into someone else through it. Not that trials are a welcome sight on the horizon, but I know through them I have learned to see the hand of God in all things. All things.
Here is the link to the Genesis 41 reading. The commentary starts at about 7:09. If I were cool, I could figure out how to put it up on this post, but I haven't got that down yet. For now, enjoy (and meet my dad):
