Nicholas' Surgery - Before and After

It's been almost a year since Nicholas had surgery on his hands. For those of you who don't know, Nicholas was born with a condition called Amniotic Band Syndrome. It's something that happens in the womb, and is considered a rare congenital defect. Somehow, fibers developed and got wrapped around his forearm and fingers, causing restrictions (basically scar tissue) beneath the skin. We found a doctor in Salt Lake City at Primary Childrens' medical center who had operated on this type of case and was a pediatric specialist. So, last February after many prayers and blessings, we headed down for his surgery. The hardest part for us as parents was handing our son off to the anesthesiologist and knowing that it was out of our hands from then on out. Nicholas was in surgery for about an hour and a half, and then had to wear bandages for the next six weeks. He was such a brave little guy and we were so proud. We thought we would share the results so you can see them side-by-side. He still has a brace that he is supposed to wear to help the tendons in his left hand stretch and hopefully grow a little more.
